Microsoft has recently partnered Hyundai Kia Automotive Group (HKAG) to co-develop next generation in-car infotainment systems. The collaboration between the two giants will result in production of a next generation infotainment system that provides voice-controlled connectivity between mobile devices. Microsoft in-car software will also enable a customer to use voice command for personal music players.
Post this agreement Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motor Co. will be entitled to sell cars equipped with Microsoft Auto around the world. Velle Kolde, senior product manager for Microsoft Auto remarked that Microsoft is working on new capabilities for the in-car software. He added that the software might include navigation and emergency call service activation, when air bags inflate. The in-car infotainment device by Microsoft can be compared to mini-PCs. In fact even after the launch of the infotainment system, users will be able to add or upgrade new functions in the form of software program updates. The complete infotainment system will be introduced in the North American market in 2010.
