Researchers at Utrecht University have found that it is gene of the person which is responsible for premature ejaculation. Leading researcher Marcel Waldinger on the new finding said that this theory contradicts the idea, which has been common for years, that the primary form of premature ejaculation is actually a psychological disorder.

 

Waldinger said that the results of the study establish the genetic reason behind premature ejaculation. He said that new research may help develop gene therapy against premature ejaculation. According to the 'Journal of Sexual Medicine' Waldinger and colleagues studied 89 Dutch men with premature ejaculation. Subsequently, they were compared with a control group of 92 males.

 

The researchers found that gene 5-HTTLPR is responsible for the amount and activity of serotonin, which controlled the rapidity of ejaculation. However, according to Waldinger the study applies to men who have always ejaculated prematurely from their first sexual contact onwards and not for men who started suffering from this later on in life.
