Government owned Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) plans to invest INR 1,000 crore in setting up 2,000 CNG dispensing stations on major national highways to create a CNG Quadrilateral. Talking to media on the sidelines of a conference UD Choubey, CMD GAIL said that, the company would set up these 2,000 CNG outlets in the next 3 years. He also added that this CNG Quadrilateral would need 14 million standard cubic meters of natural gas per day.
In first part of the CNG Quadrilateral, 5 CNG stations would be set up on the Delhi-Mathura-Agra highway at INR 49 crore in the next 3 to 4 months. At present, 400 CNG stations owned by GAIL in the country sell 3.7 million metric standard cubic meters per day of gas. Mr Choubey further added that, GAIL is also planning to invest INR 100 crore in setting up CNG stations in cities along its gas pipeline network.
Mr Choubey told that, GAIL is seeking 5 million metric standard cubic meter per day gas from the initial output from Reliance' eastern offshore KG-D6 fields for selling CNG to automobiles and piped natural gas to households for cooking purpose. It wants to use this gas in Delhi and Mumbai among other cities.
