GAIL (India) Limited has entered into a gas co-operation agreement with Infrastructure Development Department (IDD) of Karnataka. B. C. Tripathi, Director (Marketing), GAIL and Arvind Jadhav, principal secretary of IDD signed the co-operation agreement in Bangalore on Thursday (April 30). Among the other dignitaries present during the signing of the deal include Sudhakar Rao, chief secretary, Government of Karnataka, V P Baligar, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Dr. U. D. Choubey, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL, and other senior officials of GAIL and the Karnataka Government.
According to U. D. Choubey, the agreement is focused on developing natural gas distribution and city gas infrastructure. The GAIL-IDD cooperation agreement will boost the use of eco-friendly fuels in the state of Karnataka, added Choubey. Under the newly signed agreement, GAIL will study various options and evaluate energy demand in the state. Both GAIL and IDD will conduct studies on pipelines and City Gas Distribution Networks (CGD) and prepare the preliminary Techno Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) for infrastructure development.
Both the organisations will identify industrial clusters for distribution of natural gas as fuel. Apart from these, the gas co-operation agreement aims to work for the achievement of clean and green environment in Karnataka. The agreement will also promote a Joint Venture (JV) for domestic, industrial and transport sectors in the state.
