Gabriel Silva has been announced as the new defence minister for Colombia by the Colombian President, Alvaro Uribe.
Silva, takes over Juan Manuel Santos, and joins the office in August. Juan Manuel Santos had resigned from his post in May.
Colombian Armed Forces chief Gen. Freddy Padilla de Leon ran the defence ministry on an interim basis after his resignation.
