According to a government statement, there are no plans for increasing the prices of petroleum-based fuels. This statement was made by the government in wake of the increasing concern about the rise in prices of the global crude oils.
"We are not comfortable with the current prices," Petroleum Secretary R.S. Pandey told the media during the global hydrogen technologies convention that is being held in New Delhi.
"But there is no proposal to increase fuel prices," he said while taking part in the event that has been organised by Indian Oil Corp and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The current price of the global crude oil is nearly $75 per barrel, which is the highest in the past 10 months. This unrestrained rise of crude oil prices is adding pressure on transport fuel retailers in the country.
The government had increased the prices of petrol and diesel only before its monsoon budget session in July. Petrol became dearer to the users by Rs. 4 per litre where as the users have to pay Rs. 4 more for each litre of diesel they buy.
