Flip-flop may be one among popular footwear during summers but recent study conducted by American School of Sports Medicine shows that these are a possible cause of aches and pains in body. The study even says that these are more harmful than other footwear including high heels. Prof. Wendi Weimer of Auburn University says that she became interested in flip-flops when she noticed an increase in lower leg pain when her students came back from summer and were transitioning back into wearing tennis shoes and street shoes.
Prof. Weimer later on set up an experiment with her graduate students to look at how the foot hits the ground. The group queried participants who wear flip-flops and concluded that people are very much concerned about stubbing their toes particularly as they swing their leg through. The study team says that this is not an attack on a flip-flop or a flip-flop like shoe. The study shows that pain and ache in body because of wearing flip-flop is due to change in gait. The team says that a little change in gait can cause serious injury.
Apprehension about the harms of high-heel footwear were already there and now this study has taken aback all fashion fanatics. But team says that fashion fanatics do not need to worry for flip-flop and don’t need to throw away those thong sandals quite yet.
