Flavia Pennetta of Italy beat Aussie Samantha Stosur to secure the LA Championship 2009 title. It was the biggest night of her professional career as she turned the final match in her favour defeating Stosur by 6-4, 6-3.
The 27 year old Flavia won a neat sum of USD 107,000 as the winner’s cheque. Last year, she had lost in the final match.
"This is my first big title," said Pennetta.
Pennetta had four aces to three for Stosur and made good on 76 percent of her first serve points in the 81-minute match.
Pennetta said,"I am really happy because it was tough for me to beat her. I was afraid of her serve.”
"This tournament is something different for me. It is the first time for me to win a tournament like this."
This is Pennetta’s second title on hardcourts, with six of her eight coming on clay.
The 25-year-old Stosur could not win her first WTA title but was happy with her progress.
Stosur said "It was a great week and I was really pleased to make it to the final. I really enjoy playing here."
Stosur has been in very good form from past few months and has attained 18th spot in the world ranking list.
