Regeneration is restricted to some animals excluding the humans. The scientists have moved a bit forward by identifying the key cellular path which helps some animals in regenerating lost parts. This may help in understanding the secret of the regeneration process in certain animals.
Some animals in the life tree can regenerate body parts like tail and whole body. Lizards and worms fall into this category. Flatworm Planaria is an interesting subject of science, which shows exceptional skill by growing into individual bodies if cut into pieces. It has been seen that if it is cut into 32 pieces, still each part can grow into a whole new animal with all of the necessary organs.
Researchers know that regeneration involves mechanisms found in developing embryos. So attempts are being made to unlock the mystery of regeneration in some animals. However, some parts of human body like liver can show an extent to recovery through regeneration.
According to a science journal, a group of scientists have identified the key cellular pathway responsible for the regeneration process. They did it by switching on certain genes in the zebra fish. This finding can guide them to understand the mechanism of replacing of lost or damaged parts in some species.
