The US- based travel portal Optiontown is offering the unique travel solution where a person having economy class air ticket can upgrade to first class by paying a nominal amount.
Optiontown has been quoted saying that the passengers can save up to 75 percent of the actual airfare if they upgrade their ticket using its "upgrade travel option" (UTo) solution.
According to Sachin Goel, the founder and chief executive of Optiontown, “You just have to visit our website and register for the upgrade. We charge you a nominal fee that could range between Rs.2, 500-Rs.3,000 for domestic tickets and Rs.15,000-Rs.20,000 for foreign destinations”.
Optiontown has already entered into partnerships with Kingfisher Airlines of India, Air Canada and Scandinavian Airlines.
The passengers can use UTo solution to upgrade their tickets on all sectors of these airlines. He also added that the money will be reimbursed to the traveller if they fail to upgrade the tickets.
He added that the UTo route is much cheaper than booking a first class ticket directly from the airlines.
An economy class ticket on Delhi-Mumbai route costs between Rs.5, 000-Rs.7, 000 and for upgrading via UTo, the traveller has to pay Rs. 3000 more, which will be cheaper than RS. 15, 000 which he will have to pay for a 1st class normally.
He added that the company was in talks with Indian as well as foreign carriers to expand its services.
Optiontown will soon launch another fare solution, "flexibility demand option" (FDo), which seeks to pay the flier if there is any change in his travel schedule.
According to industry experts, the crisis-hit airline sector would benefit if they implement either FDo or UTo options.
Goel also added that this is a win-win situation for both airline and the travellers as both will be benefited from the service.
