Researchers have developed a new feature through which the browser can detect the computer orientation. This application will be useful for any number of gaming situations such as labyrinth-type games with virtual marbles rolling around boards.
This was announced in a press meeting by Mozilla evangelist Christopher Blizzard.
Blizzard said, “One new feature that we're including as part of Firefox 3.6 is support for web pages to access machine orientation information if it's available."
He also said, "Many modern MacBooks and ThinkPads contain devices and drivers that expose this information. We've added support for Linux, Macs and some ThinkPads where drivers and devices are available."
According to the sources, such types of orientation interfaces are important as the browser makers are transforming their software from passive medium to interactive platforms. Yahoo has been developing such a technique through its BrowserPlus software.
The Firefox 3.6 version will be released soon after its beta testing.
