Firefox Browser Download Crosses 1 Bn
According to Mozilla, its browser software, Firefox, has been downloaded by the Internet users for more than one billion times.
The browser is the strongest current rival to Microsoft's Internet Explorer, which once owned 90% of the browser market but currently Firefox is leading to an erosion in its market share.
Firefox now has 22.5% share of all active browsers, when compared to Microsoft's 65 per cent share.
Firefox, that is an offshoot of the extinct Netscape browser, reached the 500 million download mark just 17 months ago.
Last year, the foundation set a new world record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours when the third version of Firefox was downloaded more than 8 million times.
