In the Mahrajganj district of Uttar Pradesh, the supporters of a minister allegedly open fired, killing a constable and also rampaged the police station in order to protest the freeing of a rape case suspect. The locals who were present at the scene and time of the incident have alleged that the fire was shot from the car in which Jamuna Nishad, who is the Minister of State for Fisheries and his supporters were seated.

 

The minister, on the other hand, has completely denied being present at the crime venue on the night of Saturday, June 7. It was informed by Deputy Inspector General, Gorakhpur Range, G L Meena that a case has been slapped against Jamuna Nishad and 50 other people by the Kotwali police under section 302 (murder) and other relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act. Eye witnesses allege that a vehicle carrying the Minister of State for Fisheries and his supporters came and stopped in the area.

 

After this the car’s occupants and a police guard had an altercation. By then, already a crowd had gathered at the spot. As the situation turned grave, some more policemen came out and started shooing them away. As per the statement of the police, this was the moment when somebody open-fired and killed constable Krishna Nand Rai. Though constable Krishna Nand Rai was rushed to the nearby hospital, he succumbed to the bullet wound and died.
