Well known film director Shekhar Kapoor has been conferred  with the American Indian Foundation`s (AIF) cultural leadership award for his outstanding contribution in highlighting India’s social issues through his movies. 
 
The 7th Annual Southern California celebration that was held in US was attended by well known celebrities like actress Mallika Sherawat from India, Rebecca Hazelwood, Diedrich Bader, Pippa Black, Surina Jindal and various other entertainment executives.
 
AIF trustee Ravi Tilak said in a statement, "Shekhar Kapur has always worked to integrate India into the global economy, long before globalisation became a phenomenon. His advocacy and art have helped to catalyze international commitment and Kapur has always worked to integrate India into the global economy, long before globalisation".
 
This annual convocation raised more than 4 lakh dollars, and this money will be used in AIF`s further innovative microfinance programs.
