Fiji has withdrawn itself from the forthcoming regional trade talks. This decision was taken by Fiji as a disapproval of the decision taken by Pacific Island Forum for suspending Fiji from the body.
"We will pull out from the talks," Fijian Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said.
He was replying to the comments made by the New Zealand Foreign Minister, Murray McCully, that he was waiting for Fiji’s response with respect to the talks on Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER)-Plus and the Pacific Island Countries Trade Agreement (PICTA).
On July 23, Fiji had been suspended from the Pacific Island Forum for failing to hold democratic elections by that date.
