The fifth seeded Spanish player David Ferrer was toppled by Croatia’s Mario Ancic in the Wimbledon draw on Friday, June 27. This remarkable victory has propelled Ancic, who is deemed as amongst the most hazardous floaters in the Wimbledon championships, into the fourth round of the game. Retaliating powerfully to the aces, the Croatian player won 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 on the Centre Court widely exhibiting that he was back in his best form. The supercilious Croat was down with the glandular fever and therefore not in action since the past six months. But he came out all robust in the first set.
He broke the Spaniard's serve in the first game and that was enough to land him the set. Mario Ancic made a smashing Grand Slam debut in 2002 by beating Roger Federer and becoming the first teenager since Björn Borg to win his Wimbledon debut on Centre Court. This time, Ancic again broke David Ferrer at the beginning of the second set and stubbornly maintained that advantage. The third set witnessed a fierce clash with neither of the players budging to give an inch and it ended with Ferrer winning a thrilling tiebreak 7-5. However it was Ancic who eventually prevailed 7-3 in the fourth set tiebreak.
