The ONGC Nehru Cup football triumph has given India the opportunity to jump seven spots to clinch the 149th spot in FIFA rankings.
The two wins in the group stage against Kyrgyzstan and Sri Lanka pulled India out of the dismal 156th spot. India's win against Syria in Monday's final was not taken into account as it ended in tie-breakers.
Syria maintained its 95th spot in the ranking chart while Lebanon who had a win over the champions India slipped down two places to the 150th spot.
Kyrgyzstan who became the second runners up in the Nehru cup made a great leap by getting to the 143rd spot. They climbed 17 places in the rankings despite losing two matches in the tournament. Sri Lanka dropped three places to the 159th spot.
Meanwhile, South American champions Brazil are on top of the FIFA rankings .The Euro winners Spain are in the second place followed by Dutch in the third spot. Germany and world champion Italy are sharing the fourth place.
