Italian car giant, Fiat launched its premium small car Grande Punto in India in both petrol and diesel variants. Rajeev Kapoor, CEO of Fiat India Automobiles Limited (FIAL), said that the launch of Grande Punto carves a new milestone for Fiat in India after bringing the Italian designs to India.
According to the company sources, the segment of small cars is under-tapped and customers are increasingly looking for foreign brands on Indian shores. Grande Punto was first launched in the European market in 2005.

The car would be rolled out from the plant at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra in four variants each in petrol (1.2 litre and 1.4 litre) and diesel (1.3 litre). The petrol variants would cost Rs 3.99-5.61 lakh. The diesel variants would cost Rs 4.85-6.11 lakh.

FIAL is a joint venture between Italy-based Fiat Spa and domestic auto maker Tata Motors. FIAL is planning to position the car in the segment of premium hatchbacks in line with Maruti Suzuki Ritz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, and Skoda Fabia. Grande Punto would be available at over 100 Tata-Fiat dealers across the country.

Ranjangaon factory has a capacity to produce 2 lakh cars and 3 lakh engines annually. The factory also produces Palio Stile and Linea.
