Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah has requested Home Minister P. Chidambaram to review the restriction imposed on the usage of prepaid mobile connections in Jammu and Kashmir.
 
According to official sources, Farooq raised the issue during an informal chat with Chidambaram on Wednesday evening.  According to Farooq, this decision adopted by the Home Ministry has made the Kashmiris furious.
 
Chidambaram, on Wednesday, had mentioned that the ban on prepaid connections in the state will continue due to security reasons. Chidambaram shared with Farooq some of the reasons why the ban had been put into effect in Jammu and Kashmir.
 
Calling the ban a "considered decision", Chidambaram mentioned the step was adopted due after going through strong evidences of the prepaid connections being misused in the state.
 
He said that the "alarmist picture" by the media was not helping anyone.
