The captain of Indian cricket team Mahendra Singh Dhoni is likely to attain the status of a deity in his home town as the Dhoni Fans Club has decided to build temple in his honour in Ranchi. According to media, a statute of Dhoni will be installed in the temple. The construction of the temple will start on January 14, 2009. It will be the first of its kind that a temple will be built to worship a cricketer. In south India, temples have been built to worship some film stars.

 

The proposed Dhoni temple is supposed be set up in Hawai Nagar area of Ranchi. Speaking about the temple, the president of Dhoni fans club Jitendra Singh said that Dhoni's fans believe him to be the god of cricket and hence the club decided to build up the temple. According to him, Dhoni will be worshipped like other gods and goddesses.

 

Informing more about the temple, Jitendra Singh said that the temple will have Dhoni's photographs on its wall. When asked about Dhoni, a jubilant fan named Rajesh Kumar stated that the Indian captain is like a god for the people. He mentioned that Dhoni's entry into the Indian cricket team has placed Jharkhand on international map. According to him, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has changed the face of Indian cricket.
