Following the footsteps of rival social-networking site MySpace, Facebook has declared that it too will make it soon possible for users to share the information uploaded on their profiles across the web. New feature called Facebook Connect will now make it possible for developers to create applications that will link Facebook with other Internet Websites. Facebook members, however, will continue having a stringent hold over their personal information and would have to first agree in order to share it.
Facebook explained that the introduction of this facility meant much more than just permitting users to shift their information over the web. The company stated that it meant allowing users to take their identity as well as friends with them around the internet and at the same time knowing that their personal data is guarded by privacy settings. As such, users soon would be allowed to validate and link their Facebook account to other websites. Facebook members can also share their basic profiles pictures, friend lists, information on events, etc.
