According to Miami-based US National Hurricane Centre Gustav has turned into extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane on the Saffir- Simpson Hurricane Scale.'  Now, Gustav is heading towards US gulf coast. Also, the agency has speculated that Gustav could become a category 5 hurricane over the next 24 hours.

Warning has already been issued for the northern Gulf Coast, from the state of Texas to Alabama-Florida border, and the city of New Orleans. The US Census Bureau apprehends that more than 11.5 million Gulf Coast residents from Florida to southern Texas could be affected by Gustav. Earlier, Gustav ripped through western Cuba; more than 60,000 people were evacuated.

Gulf Coast has precedence of deadly hurricanes. In the year 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast in Louisiana and neighboring Mississippi, and killed more than 1,800 persons. However, this time authorities are cautious and have taken advances for better disaster response. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal on Gustav commented that there could be worst flooding than it was in Hurricane Katrina.
