The EU has put off its visit to Pakistan for overseeing implementation of international standards for seafood export. Pakistan has cited this postponing as "harmful for economic development" of the nation.

Sharmila Farooqui, adviser to the Sindh chief minister, has expressed concerns regarding this decision of EU. The visit was slated to kick off on Monday. She said it was harmful for economic development.

Talking on Sunday, she had mentioned that sea food was major player in the export business of Pakistan, adding that this EU decision would create unrest among the people related to the seafood industry.

Farooqui said that the Saudi government and other countries had certified Pakistani seafood, including fish and prawn, which showed that Pakistani seafood was standardised.
