In an attempt to further popularize cricket and head towards the growth of the sport in England, England Cricket Board (ECB) is planning to launch EPL, rival to the IPL. Working in this direction, ECB is holding talks with American billionaire Allen Stanford.
The US billionaire, who set up a Twenty 20 tournament in the Caribbean, is currently chalking out details of the proposed English Premium League (EPL) with the England Cricket Board. Giles Clarke, the Chairman of the England Cricket Board, remarked before the Tuesday (15 April) meeting with Allen Stanford. He said the ECB believed that they can set up a robust, spectator-friendly, economically sustainable competition of their own, which is not likely to cut across the core revenue streams of Test and one-day international cricket.

Yorkshire Chief executive Stewart Reagan remarked that EPL would give people an opportunity to see the best players in the world. Further, it would create interest in the game and people would be encouraged to watch as well as take part in the game. The details relating to the proposed EPL along with the time of launching the English Premier League are, however, not out as yet.
