The directors of present-day Bollywood have recognized the importance of presenting the current 'real life' situations in their movies. While 'Mumbai Meri Jaan' was based on the serial blasts that shook the 'City of Dreams', 'Fashion' showcased the ruthless world of glamour and the price one has to pay to be famous. Now, it the time to witness the release of 'EMI', a movies based on the 'easily-available, but difficult to pay' loans that are the basis of a middle class person's home as well as his dreams.

'EMI' has a star cast comprising of Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Malaika Arora, Aashish Chaudhary, Neha Uberoi, Natasha Suri, Manoj Joshi, Pushkar Jog, Daya Shankar Pandey, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Urmila Matondkar. A satirical comedy, the movie is based on the ever-changing credit economy. It tells us the story of six different people, with one thing in common - their desire to dream big. They either spend without thinking or believe the future to be so optimistic that don't mind taking loans for present expenditure.

Anil and Shilpa make up a contemporary couple. They have married each other, against their fears of compatibility, and are planning everything in their life, right from honeymoon to house to washing machine, on loans and EMI. As the EMI mounts, the love diminishes and their world starts breaking down. Ryan is a DJ, who wants to become a musician and relies on his instincts and his ego at all times. Against warning by everyone concerned, he falls 'head over heels' in love with Nancy, a gold digger, and ends up being taken for a ride.

Chandrakant is a 52 year old man, who has raised his son son Arjun single handedly, after the death of his wife. In order to make up for the lost mother, he gave Arjun everything he desired and never had the money to save. Now, Arjun wants a foreign education and Chandrakant, like a good father, takes a loan for the same. Prerna's husband died in an accidental suicide and she plans to prove that he was murdered, so that she gets the insurance money. There is a helpless cop Vidyadhar Mahedale and a lawyer friend in her world.

Prerna hires Rafik, a goon, to prove his husband's murder and ends up giving him advance money by taking a loan. A year has passed. Anil and Shilpa's marriage has broken down and they are trying to get a divorce. Ryan has been dumped by Nancy and is trying to mend his broken heart and crushed ego. Arjun has come back from abroad, but against Chandrakant's wishes, is not willing to work right now. Rafik has run away with the advance, leaving Prerna bewildered. Now, there is a common problem with all of them, the huge loans on their head and their waiting EMIs that have to be paid.
