Shammi Kapoor, the veteran actor of the Bollywood film industry, was felicitated by Osian's Cine Fans for his glorious contribution to the Indian cinema during the closing ceremony of the two day film festival in Mumbai recently. Mr Kapoor, who is presently 76 years old, arrived onstage upon a wheel-chair and said that he was feeling overwhelmed at being bestowed with this honor.
Shammi Kapoor also voiced his appreciation for his film posters showcased in the exhibition which was being convened alongside the film festival. He remarked that it brought back to him ‘very beautiful memories’. He went on to give credit to the Indian film industry for what he is today. He paid special thanks to the late legendary singer Mohd. Rafi who had sung a number of songs for Kapoor’s films.
The Osian Film Festival at Mumbai was also attended by actor Aamir Khan, who spoke very highly about his ‘Shammi uncle.’ Khan disagreed in terming him as the Elvis Presley of India. Instead, Aamir Khan underscored that it was Elvis Presley who was America's answer to Shammi Kapoor in India. The Bollywood star had once said a sure sign of a good actor was the belief with which he gave his shot, Aamir said, ‘And Shammi Kapoor stands true on this test.’
