Election Commissioner Navin Chawla is now at the centre of a land row in Rajasthan. Recently Mr Chawla was in the eye of a storm as the Chief Election Commissioner had accused him of being partisanship.

The recent controversy came to the limelight, when a lower court in Jaipur asked the police to hold an inquiry into a land allocation case. The land was allocated to two trusts in which Chawla was the chairman and his wife Rupika was the secretary.

The order of the court came after a petition was filed by a BJP worker in Rajasthan. In his petition the BJP worker alleges that the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) had allotted 25,000 square meters of land in the city to Chawla's two trusts, even before their formal registration.

The former Congress government in Rajasthan led by Ashok Gehlot had allocated the land to Chawla's trusts in 2000. The petitioner also alleges that, the two trusts were given land at throwaway prices only because of Chawla and his wife's proximity to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The petitioner further claims that, Chawla had sent two letters on his official letter pad to JDA officials to press for this allotment. The petitioner wants the court to quash the allotment.
