A young girl from Delhi, Ekta Choudhary has won the Pantaloons Femina Miss India Universe 2009 pageant contest on Sunday evening (5 April 2009). The beautiful damsel will represent the country at the global beauty pageant later this year. She was crowned at the grand ceremony held in Mumbai. Pooja Chopra of Pune was crowned Miss India World 2009 and Shriya Kishore won the title of Miss India Earth 2009.  

The traditional pecking order of the titles was given a tweak this year as PFMI World, Pooja and PFMI Universe, Ekta shared top honours - both are No. 1. Both were followed by PFMI Earth, Shriya. The PFMI finale was held in the open-air setting of the Andheri Sports Complex evening in Mumbai. The new beauties were crowned by last year's title holders, PFMI World 2008 and Miss World first runner-up Parvathy Omanakuttan, PFMI Universe 2008 Simran Kaur Mundi and PFMI Earth 2008 Tanvi Vyas. The event was hosted by R Madhavan and the enviably good-looking Malaika Arora Khan.

Many Bollywood beauties performed in the stage including bubbly Genelia D'Souza, sexy Kangana Ranaut and hot Priyanka Chopra. Pantaloons was the title sponsor for PFMI 2009 while Nivea Visage, Bajaj Allianz and Collection g, in association with D'damas and World Gold Council, were associate sponsors.
