New Zealand's Kermadec Islands experienced a strong earthquake on Monday, September 29, 2008. According to the Geological Survey, the tremor of 7.3 magnitude jolted the Kermadec Islands at about 3.19 a.m. (1532 GMT Monday). The epicenter of this earth quake is reported to be located at 1,035 km northeast of Auckland at a depth of 35 km. There is no report of Tsunami warning being issued.
Meanwhile report says that there have been no causalities or damages due to the earthquake. New Zealand also experienced serious earth quake measuring 6.8 in the Richter scale on December 20, 2007. The earth quake that struck New Zealand's Northern Island caused considerable damage to the city of Gisborne. The December tremor was so strong that the holes in the streets of Grirbone opened up and some buildings also collapsed partially.
