Series of deadly earthquakes ravaged the Central Asian region on October 6, 2008. An earthquake of 6.6 magnitude jolted the mountains of Central Asia, destroying Nura village of Kyrgyzstan. It also affected Tibet. Report says that about 102 people are killed in Kyrgyzstan and Tibet. Meanwhile, another tremor of 5.1 magnitude hit the same area. It created lesser damage than the previous one, claimed Kyrgyz rescue officials.
While on the other hand, Tibet experienced two major earth quakes on the same day. As per US Geological Survey, the first quake measured magnitude 6.6 and struck 50 miles west of Lhasa, more than 1,600 miles from Beijing. The second tremor measuring magnitude 5.1 hit about 15 minutes later, some 60 miles west of the Tibetan capital, it added. Total of 30 people are reported to have killed in Tibet.
The epicenter of the Kyrgyz quake lies about 1,243 miles west of the Tibetan quakes. The tremor killed at least 74 people, 41 of them are children. According to Kyrgyz rescue officials, more than hundred people are injured who needs immediate medical attention. The President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev conveyed his condolences to the victims of such a natural disaster. He also assured to deliver tents and other necessary commodities for the victims.
