Government has plans to introduce the concept of e-birth certificates, for which brainstorming sessions with the ID chief, Nandan Nilekani, is being conducted. He has been requested by the government to develop e-health cards and birth certificates for newborns.
"We were discussing it yesterday (Wednesday) over dinner. I proposed it to him," Dinesh Trivedi, Minister Of State For Health, told the media on Thursday on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Life Science Conclave.
According to him,the birth certificate, which is an important document, had to be made available to people anytime, anywhere. "People should be able to go to a cyber cafe and get a printout of their birth certificate," the minister added.
When asked about e-health certificate, the minister told that all the medical history of the new born will be incorporated in this certificate, which will cover weight, vaccination, any birth problem and other related information. People can avail all this from the Internet.
"I told Nandan, 'you have to start from somewhere. Why are you not thinking about it?' We are brainstorming it," the minister told.
