A three-day shipping exhibition on the latest energy-efficient and environment friendly technologies is going to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by next month. The international maritime convention called The Seatrade Middle East Maritime 2008 exhibition will focus on the importance of 'green shipping'.
According to the managing director of the organiser of the exhibition, green shipping needs to be implemented all over the world as global fleet burns around half a billion tonnes of fuel every year and pollutes the environment.

The technologies like marine engines run on compressed natural gas (CNG) will be showcased in the international exhibition. The use of CNG to run ship will not only help to keep the environment clean but also reduce the fuel expenses as it is cheaper to operate. Reports say that the Singapore-based Jenjosh Group has decided to launch the first vessels fully propelled by using CNG main engines and generators.

According to one of the exhibitors of the Seatrade exhibition, vessels which are powered by the CNG are the ships of the future with efficiency in cost and fuel cleanliness. These ships can be called 'green' ships. Study says that besides emitting 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide, the global fleet also releases about 25 million tonnes of polluting gases. The Seatrade Middle East Maritime 2008 exhibition will try to sort out these issues by promoting 'green shipping'. The exhibition will commence on Decembers 14, 2008.
