In alliance with SPIC MACAY, the Delhi University (DU) is going to introduce a new certificate course on 'Appreciating Indian Culture'. The aim is to impart knowledge and thereby sensitize youngsters on the country's different cultural art forms. Speaking about this certificate course, Prof. Deepak Pental, Vice-Chancellor of DU said, 'We want to keep the interest in our culture and heritage alive. The student community should be exposed to various facets of the Indian culture.'
The DU VC further said that they are planning to make a film on the lecture 10 sessions that will be conducted under this certificate course and later upload it on the internet to make it available to a wider audience. 'We are hoping we could run a course like this every year,' added Prof. Deepak Pental. The name of the certificate course is 'Heritage' that will comprise of 10 lecture sessions of two hours each. The classes will be held at the Vice Regal Lodge of the varsity's North Campus.
The entire certificate course comprises five groups and each will be handled by five top personalities from the field of art and culture. There will be noted Indian photographer Raghu Rai who will deliver lecture on 18th & 25th September. Renowned classical dancer Pandit Birju Maharaj will speak on 16th & 23rd October, Instrumentalist Ustad Asad Ali Khan will give lecture on 30th October & 6th November, artist Anjolie Ila Menon on 13th & 20th November, whereas Dadi Pudumjee will speak on Puppetry on 27th November & 4th December.
