Du Li of China won the gold medal in the Women’s 50m Rifle Three Positions with a new Olympic record for the final score of 690.3. After her fifth place in the Women's 10m Air Rifle, Du did not give her second prospect of winning a gold medal. With her qualification score of 589, she equaled the Olympic record. Emmons of the United States finished second with a final score of 687.7, while Cruz of Cuba grabbed the bronze medal with a score of 687.6.

The final began badly for Du when she shot 8.7, which was the worst single shot of any shooter in the final. Eglis Yaima Cruz of Cuba took the lead with her first shot scoring 10.3. Du quickly reclaimed the first place when she scored 10.4 on her third shot, while Cruz could only get 9.3. Cruz’s fifth shot, scoring 10.5, was her last taste of the lead, when Du managed to get 9.9. Du’s well-timed 10.8 on her sixth shot affirmed her triumph and 10.8 on her ninth shot sealed the gold medal. Matthew Emmons of US fought back to thrash Cruz for the silver medal.
