To ease the admission process for visually challenge students, the University of Delhi has come out with admission forms and a special information pamphlet in Braille for the first time. These forms will act as basic guidelines to visually challenged students and will not be submitted to the university. The decision to bring out forms in Braille was taken by Komal Kamra, a reader of Zoology and member of the Equal Opportunity Cell, when she was asked for a Braille form yesterday by a blind girl.

The Zoology reader remarked that she was stuck by the girl’s request as she has been working for the cell meant for the physically handicapped for a very long time, but the idea never occurred to her. Ms. Kamra immediately contacted Dr Seema M Parihar, who handles admissions of the physically challenged. Together they will continue to type the Braille forms, which are available to the blind candidates from Tuesday, June 03, 2008. The DU volunteers will finally aid the blind students to transfer the information on to the University approved form.
