The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is planning to develop 12 high-tech technologies for India’s first indigenously built Arjun main battle tank (MBT). While talking to the media, associate director of the DRDO’s Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), R. Jayakumar informed that the organisation will develop some futuristic technology systems including automatic target tracking, defensive aids, laser warning, tank simulator systems.

Jayakumar also informed that DRDO's lab is considering the plan to develop robotic vehicles that will work on tele-link in addition to make the tracking of targets automatic. While commenting on developing the battle tanks, Jayakumar said that DRDO is focusing on the development of detection avoidance and laser warning systems to make the battle tanks invisible to the enemy. He informed that the firing and mobility powers of the tank are satisfactory. CVRDE is reported to be in the process of developing tank simulators similar to flight simulators.

According to Jayakumar, a solider can comfortably operate the battle tank after undergoing simulator training. The director of CVRDE, S. Sundaresh said that the Indian Army’s order for 124 Arjun tanks will be completed this year. He also wishes that more orders for tanks will come which will enable the organisation to incorporate more local component content in the battle machine. Currently, the organisation uses 50 percent of indigenous content in developing battle tanks.
