The Japanese handset manufacturer, NTT DoCoMo has launched its new set of DoCoMo mobiles, where the cases are made from compressed wood. It has shown its two prototype Touch Wood handsets at the Ceatec exhibition in Chiba, Japan.

The wooden cases for those handsets come from the trees that are cut during forest thinning or road developments. The cut trees are then chopped into blocks, which in turn are compressed in a mold to give specific design. Such types of glossy cases are also waterproof and disease resistant. Interestingly, no two cases are alike due to different grain patterns.

The recently launched prototype sports with a slider design with a haptic touchscreen along with a 5.2 megapixel camera. The company will also launch another model with a curved body like that of Apple’s iPhone.

Though this is the first initiative from DoCoMo, yet its future will be revealed after it starts the commercial sale of the handsets.
