Dita Von Teese, the American burlesque artist has claimed that she has no problem being known as a stripper. The 37-year old actress and model also added that she believes her work is ‘good and entertaining’.

"Having worked in strip clubs and getting my start there and that being my original audience, I have no problem with the word stripper,” she was quoted as saying.

"I don`t like to tell everyone that what I do is different to stripping. It is one of the origins of striptease and began in America on the stages in burlesque theatres.

"I stand by what I do and I believe what I do is good and entertaining, and when people see my show I get great reviews across the board. I can`t be bothered worrying what every person thinks,” she added.

Von Teese is best known for her burlesque routines and is frequently dubbed "the Queen of Burlesque’ in the press. Von Teese began performing burlesque in 1993.

"I`ve always used what I`ve got to my best advantage and that`s really the message I`m trying to get across to other women.

"You can be whoever you want to be, and you can do it yourself and build your own glamorous world,” she added.

Burlesque is a humorous theatrical entertainment involving parody and sometimes grotesque exaggeration. In 20th century America, the form became associated with a variety show in which striptease is the chief attraction.
