Top-seeded Dinara Safina crashed out of US Open 2009, after the Czech teen player, Petra Kvitova, took over her in the third-round match of US Open 2009 women’s singles by a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7/5).
Safina had wasted three match points before she lost to Kvitova. But this defeat does not push her down from her ranking status.
Safina made 39 unforced errors as well as nine double faults with only 12 winners. But even though the Czech teen had made 59 unforced errors, she was able to fire 47 winners, restricting the number of double faults to just 5.
Kvitova, who has been ranked World No. 72 will face Belgium's 50th-seeded Yanina Wickmayer to be in the final 16.
"I'm very happy," Kvitova said. "It was amazing."
