Maulana Azad National Urdu University has nominated actor Dilip Kumar for the honorary doctorate degree. The eminent actor of Indian cinema, Dilip Kumar will receive the honour at the annual convocation of the university slated to be held on February 21. Apart from Dilip Kumar, former India's ambassador to the United States Abid Hussain, noted Urdu writer and scholar Gopi Chand Narang and well-known Urdu novelist Jeelani Bano will also be conferred with the honorary degrees.
 
The Urdu University at Hyderabad will have Sukhadeo Thorat, Chairman, University Grants Commission as the chief guest of the convocation ceremony. The convocation will be presided over by the chancellor of Urdu University, Syeda Saiyidain Hameed. Established in 1998, the Urdu University aims to promote and develop the Urdu language, provide higher, technical and vocational education in the Urdu medium. The central university also focuses on women's education.
 
One of the greatest actors of Indian cinema, Dilip Kumar is the recipient of 8 Filmfare Best Actor awards. In 1992, he was conferred with Filmfare Lifetime Achievent award. He was also awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994. In Pakistan, he was honoured with the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the highest civilian award of the country.
