All Kolkatans warmly welcomed football legend Diego Maradona on his arrival on Saturday (6 Dec); the event resembled a carnival. Maradona is on a two day trip to the city. Tens of thousands of people with placards and posters and foot-thumping Latin Music were lined on the road. Everybody was eager to have a glimpse of football wizard. CPM leader Subhash Chakravarty received him at the Netaji Airport.  

 

Maradona along with his girlfriend Veronica sat in a specially designed bus which had transparent windows so that his fans could see him. In next two days Maradona would lay the foundation stone of a soccer academy. He would go to Mother House (the global headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity). Subsequently he would attend a charity dinner.

 

Today he would be felicitated at the Salt Lake stadium and would also call on communist leader Jyoti Basu. Factually, Maradona is favorite among football lovers, but the most favorite among communists world over. He has tattoos of Che and Mao on his each shoulder. He had played great role in Argentina's victory of world cup football in the year 1986.
