Former PM and Janata Dal (S) leader backed UP CM Mayawati as leader of the proposed Third Front. The Third Front is expected to facilitate an alternative to BJP and Congress parties. Gowda said that he supports Mayawati, and if she becomes the leader of the Third Front, he would not have any reservations. Also, he said that he longer dreams of becoming Prime Minister.
These statements from Ex-Indian Prime Minister came during Party's convention in Bangalore. This farmer leader said that as a farmer, he would cooperate in formation of the Third Front. He also said that The Third Front is going to take shape, and it is beyond someone's likings and disliking. The front according to him will become an alternative force to counter BJP and Congress.
Gowda said that he is concentrating on his home state Karnataka and the party is going to hold state conventions in Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra and Rajasthan where the party has its organization. However, he said that after meeting with Mayawati in Delhi, he has not been in touch with Left and other leaders. Evidently, left parties are crucial for any alliance to be forged to counter Congress and BJP.
