Filmmakers have always found 'real' life incidents to make promising scripts. The latest movie to have been based on 'realities' of life is 'Deshdrohi', a small-time film by Kamal Khan, a Bhojpuri actor. Apart from being the producer, Khan is also playing the lead role in the film that is based on the recent 'immigrant trouble' in Maharashtra, specifically Mumbai.
'Deshdrohi' has been set amidst the backdrops of the violent confrontations taking place between immigrants and locals in Mumbai, India's financial capital. It emphasizes that that 'Marathis versus North Indians' issue finds its cause in nothing, but the unequal economic growth in the city. It basically revolves around a small-town migrant. He comes to Mumbai to find a job and earn a living, but somehow gets caught in the insider-outsider issue.
'Deshdrohi'is slated for release across India on 14 November 2008. However, the timing of its release, just after the recent spate of troubles in Mumbai, has come into scrutiny. Senior police officers were asked to review it. After watching the film at a special screening, they gave a report to the government, which was followed by a ban on its release in Maharashtra, for 60 days. After the said time period, another review of 'Deshdrohi' will be held to decide its fate.
