The conference of the Islamic clerics which was organized by Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind at Deoband seminary has urged the Maoists and terrorists to shun violence, adding that their issues will be addressed by the community.
"If terrorists and Maoists agree to give up violence, they are welcome to join us and I would like to assure them that we will fight for them," said Maulana Mehmood Madni, who spearheaded the convention.
The meeting has also decided to oppose the proposed Central Madrassa Board, which had been put forward by the Minister of Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal. Many people, who addressed the convention, had mentioned that government has no right to "meddle" with the madrassas, adding that any change made to the existing system was "totally unacceptable".
The clerics were not even impressed by the allocation of a Rs.700 crore annual grant proposed for the madrassas by Sibal.
