According to a US government funded World Values Survey, done by a global network of Scientists has revealed that Denmark is the happiest country of the world. Denmark is a successful democracy enjoys social equity and a peaceful atmosphere. According to the survey, Zimbabwe is the least happy country of the world. The country has been rocked with political and social strife for over years now. The richest country of the world, United States of America ranked 16th in the list.
Ronald Inglehart, the lead author of the study and a political scientist at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research remarked that he strongly suspects that there is a sturdy correlation between peace and happiness. Further he noted that there is a strong correlation between democracy and happiness as well. Some of the high ranking happy countries of the world are Canada, Sweden, Iceland, Northern Ireland, Netherlands, Puerto Rico and Colombia. The lead author significantly noted that ultimately, the most important determinant of happiness is the extent to which people have free choices in how to live their lives.
