The rising number of cases in Dengue in NCR has alarmed health infrastructure establishment. According to sources till August 25, there have been 60 confirmed cases of dengue in Delhi and 213 from Gurgaon. So far two persons have lost their lives because of Dengue. And, this all is happening in the Monsoon when the weather condition becomes conducive for the breeding of Aedes Aegypti mosquito.

Proactive actions are expected from health authorities in this and similar situations, and taking cognizance of the situation National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP) soon would send a team to Gurgaon which has been affected most by Dengue to review the situation. However, according to Dr GPS Dhillion, Director of NVBDCP, there is dearth of staff to implement the program effectively.

Gurgaon is major concern for health authorities. CMO of the city Dr SS Dalal informed that the health department has deployed six teams in the different areas to educate people about the disease with carrying out fogging and spraying larvicide in places where water could accumulate. According to him so far fogging has been done in around 50 colonies.

Delhi too is concerned about Dengue, particularly recent registration of new cases. According to MCD sources Delhi's 34 hospitals are well equipped to handle dengue cases. Accordingly, these hospitals have sufficient platelets and relevant drugs to deal with an outbreak. MCD is trying hard to meet challenge of Dengue through its challans against people/bodies failing to check mosquito breeding.
