Delphi Corporation has announced to invest Rs 250 crore to build up an electronics manufacturing plant in Oragadam which is located about 40 km away from Chennai. The company informed that Oragadam plant will start its operation by the end of next year. The new plant will focus on manufacturing electronic products in areas of controls and security, safety and entertainment and communications. The company operates four manufacturing facilities in Delhi and Bangalore. Apart from these, Delphi owns a Technical Centre in Bangalore.
Talking to media, the president of Delphi's Asia Pacific unit, Jeffrey J. Owens said that India offers a prospective market for the company. He expected that Delphi would do a great business in the country. According to Owens, over the years India has evolved as a hub of small cars. It is expected that the existing vehicles manufacturers of India are going to reap great benefits from Delphi's electronics manufacturing facility. The new manufacturing plant will be established on an area of 10 acres of land.
