The Delhi University (DU) on Friday (May 15) raised the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota reservation to 18 percent. According to a statement from the university, the revised reservation norms will be applicable from the next academic session. While addressing a press conference, dean of students’ welfare, DU, SK Vij stated that apart from increase in reservation, the number of seats for OBC students will also be increased in each course.
According to him, there will be a 36 percent increase in the number of seats in each course. The new move will push the number of seats from 42,000 to 49,000. There has been a 9 percent increase in OBC quota reservation as last year there was 9 percent reservation for OBC students. Informing more, the dean said that next year the reservation will be increased to 27 percent.
The increase in reservation has been directed by the Supreme Court and the human resources development ministry. Meanwhile, the admission process in DU will begin on June 1 with the availability and submission of forms. The university will announce the first list on June 25. The decision of raising the OBC reservation quota will give more chances to underprivileged students.
