The International Road Federation meet on Accident Prevention and Road Safety Measures, slated to kick off on Oct 23, will be hosted by New Delhi. This two-day event will have about 300 road safety experts from across the world.
 
"The experts will discuss ways and means to reduce fatal road accidents. Worldwide, governments are working on reducing fatal accidents and European countries have been successful. But in the developing countries, including India, road accident fatalities are on the rise," said K.K. Kapila, vice chairman with IRF.
 
The topics which will be discussed during the two-day event include the design of the vehicles, road safety through engineering measures, advanced traffic management systems, public education, intelligent highways and vehicle safety devices.
 
He also mentioned that a special session on aspects related to maintaining road safety in metro cities will be held.
 
The ministry of road transport and highways, and IRF have also launched a joint initiative in the country to reduce fatal accidents by 50% by 2012.
