The central government has announced that the capital city of India will be getting 29 new police stations with 6,478 additional policemen. This step has been taken by the central government in the view of the increased threats and growing security concerns of the city.
"I am glad to inform you that taking note of the growing needs of the metropolitan city of Delhi, the central government has sanctioned additional manpower of 6,478 policemen at a cost of Rs.199 crore per annum," Home Minister P. Chidambaram told reporters in New Delhi.
"Further, 29 new police stations have also been sanctioned," he said, adding this would raise the total number of police stations in Delhi to 155.
